2022 Strategic Program Speakers

Dr. Bronwyn Hyland is a program lead for Clean Energy and Hydrogen at Suncor Energy, where she investigates and develops a variety of technologies, including small modular reactors (SMR), with a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Prior to joining Suncor in 2018, Bronwyn worked at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories first as reactor physicist and lastly as Program Manager, Small Modular and Advanced Reactor Technologies. In the later role she provided leadership in support of CNL's SMR strategic initiative, including a multi-disciplinary SMR research program and the goal of hosting a prototype SMR.

During her time at CNL, Bronwyn participated in many national and international expert groups and collaborations, including at the International Atomic Energy Agency, the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency, and with international laboratories. She also served as the co-chair of the Technology Working Group for the Ministry of Natural Resources (NRCan) SMR Roadmap.

Bronwyn holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in physics from the University of Guelph, a PhD in Nuclear Engineering from Royal Military College of Canada, and is a fellow of the World Nuclear University Summer Institute.
