James Rajotte has been Alberta's Senior Representative to the United States since May 1, 2020. In the role, he regularly meets with senior elected officials, business executives, and thought leaders from across the U.S.
With a 15-year tenure in the Canadian House of Commons, Mr. Rajotte represented Edmonton-Southwest from 2000 to 2004 and Edmonton-Leduc from 2004 to 2015. His parliamentary service included the following standing committees:
• Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance (2008-2015),
• Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Industry Science and Technology (2006-2008),
• Chair of the Canada–United Kingdom Inter-parliamentary Association, and
• Vice-Chair of the Canada–United States Inter-parliamentary Group.
Mr. Rajotte's legislative achievements include the adoption of three private member’s bills by the House of Commons, focusing on combating Identity Theft (pretexting), supporting funding for Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, and enhancing financial literacy in Canada.
After his time in politics, he was a Vice President at Rogers Communications (a major Canadian communications and media company) from November 2015 to April 2020, overseeing Provincial and Municipal Government Affairs. His work helped expand the company’s broadband and wireless communication network across the country.
In addition to his career, Mr. Rajotte has contributed to various organizations as a board member, including the Alberta Enterprise Group, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Imagine Canada, and the Wood Buffalo Economic Development Corporation. He also served on the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta in a volunteer capacity.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Mr. Rajotte holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta and completed coursework towards a Master of Arts.
