World Energy Leaders Converge as Global Energy Show Canada Breaks Records and Sets New Standard for the Industry

Alberta reaffirms itself as a global hub for energy dialogue and diplomacy with more than 35,000 in attendance

Calgary, AB (July 7, 2025) – The Global Energy Show Canada (GESC) concluded after three days of high impact discussions and industry innovations. Held at Calgary’s BMO Centre, the event brought together over 36,387 attendees and nearly 400 exhibitors from across the energy value chain, reaffirming its position as Canada’s national energy event.

“This year’s Global Energy Show Canada was a defining moment for the sector. We saw extraordinary engagement from across the energy spectrum, including conventional, transitional and emerging technologies; reflecting the momentum of the global energy conversation.” said Nick Samain, Senior Vice President of dmg events. “This year’s show was about more than energy. It was about leadership, bridging global perspectives and demonstrating that the industry is open for business, bringing the evolving energy mix of hydrogen, CCUS, AI, Indigenous partnerships, and global LNG trade to the forefront. The presence of political leaders from across the globe, industry CEOs and innovators under one roof speaks to the importance of collaboration, and the urgency and opportunity facing the industry today.”

Highlights from GESC 2025 included:

• An historic keynote from His Excellency Haitham Al Ghais, Secretary General of OPEC. Addressing the Executive Conference audience and opening the show, his keynote speech called for a balanced, inclusive approach to global energy transition. Al Ghais advocated for balanced policies that focus on emissions and do not demonize any energy source, highlighting the value of pragmatic strategies, including renewables and carbon capture. He also praised Alberta’s important role in global oil supply and cited Canada as a major global oil supplier.
• Ministerial dialogue took place across the three days and included a keynote from Honourable Danielle Smith, Premier, Government of Alberta, calling for federal-provincial alignment on energy policy, stressing the need for regulatory clarity and investment certainty to unlock the full potential of Alberta’s energy sector.
• Record international participation on the trade show floor.
• Record numbers of executive industry roundtable meetings and a diverse speaker lineup including leaders from Shell Canada, Cenovus, PETRONAS Canada, Trans Mountain, MEG Energy, Woodfibre LNG and OPG.
• Representatives from governmental and international delegations, including:
  • Delegations from the United States, Middle East, Southeast Asia and Europe, with trade representatives and energy ministers convening on-site.
  • Strong Federal and Government of Alberta representation.
  • A record number of meetings for the Trade Commissioner Service, which helps Canadian business succeed on the global stage.
• The launch of the Energy Influencers Conference, a new program featuring next-gen technologies and a platform for startups to showcase decarbonization, clean tech and digital energy solutions and an AI pavilion to unlock the potential of AI.
• The milestone 10th anniversary edition of the Global Energy Show Canada Awards recognized the accomplishments of innovators, leaders and trailblazers in the industry.
