Michael received his B.A.Sc. in chemical engineering from the University of Toronto, his M.Eng. and Ph.D. in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering from the University of Calgary, and his MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas. Michael’s 31 years' of work experience includes 2 years at a hydrometallurgical processing plant in Timmins, Ontario and over 29 years of work experience in the upstream oil and gas industry. He has worked in Calgary for over 13 years as a reservoir engineer, and internationally for 17 years in reservoir modeling, development, management and optimization. His international work experience includes 7 years in Qatar, 4 years in Kuwait, a year each in Russia and Egypt and the rest in Houston, Texas. He was the Chief Reservoir Engineer for Occidental Petroleum in Qatar, and the Head of Enhanced Oil Recovery for both Maersk Oil Qatar and Oxy. He returned to Canada in early 2020 and formed an energy consulting and R&D company, where he is investigating the potential use of Alberta’s vast medium and heavy oil resources for clean energy production. In addition, he provides standard petroleum engineering consulting services for oil and gas companies, in the areas of reservoir development and management, numerical simulation, transition planning, risk identification and mitigation and business strategy.
