Alex Turta has a Ph.D. in oil recovery by in situ combustion (ISC), with a subsequent in-depth specialization in ISC applications. As an EOR specialist he worked for almost 40 years in the Drilling and Oil Production Research Institute in Romania, Petroleum Recovery Institute and Alberta Research Council/Alberta Innovates ? Technology Futures (AITF) in Calgary. Currently he has his own company A T EOR Consulting. For more than 12 years, Alex was involved in the implementation of Suplacu de Barcau ISC commercial project, leading the teams, which investigated wet combustion application, water injection in the burned-out zones, advancement in the ignition equipment and procedures, and ways to improve processing of the ISC laboratory RTO data. He has served as an ISC consultant in North and South America, Europe and Asia. He has also been engaged in assignments from the World Bank and the United Nations Development Programs (UNDP). As an UNDP expert he guided the development of Balol and Santhal ISC pilots; recently he reviewed and guided these commercial ISC projects in India. All in all, Alex has been involved in 8 commercial ISC operations and more than 16 ISC pilots, worldwide. Recently, he launched a website fully dedicated to ISC process. He is the author of the ISC chapter in the book ”Enhanced Oil Recovery. Field Case Studies”, Elsevier, 2013, Editor James J. Sheng. He is a co-inventor of Toe-To-Heel Air Injection (THAI), and CAPRI processes for heavy oil recovery. Also, he has been instrumental in exploring the possibility of conducting the steamflooding in a toe-to-heel configuration. Presently, he is working for improvement of THAI process; he coordinates a team of specialists in conducting a comprehensive assessment, starting from the evaluation of the original patent, supporting laboratory and simulations work, and finishing with an in-depth analysis of the field"
