North America's Leading Energy Event
June 13-15, 2023
BMO Centre at Stampede Park - Calgary, Canada

The GPS Technical Conference Call for Abstracts is open! As the abstracts are being submitted, we caught up with 2019 Technical Speaker Connor Blake to talk about his experience in 2019.

Blake’s presentation, Implementation and Utilization of RFID in Field Data Collection, discussed the digitalization of oil and gas operations, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology and how the implementation of RFID benefits organizations.

GPS: What was your experience working with dmg events and the GPS team?

CB: My experience working with dmg events and the GPS team was overall quite positive. They are professional and prompt.

GPS: How did you find out about the GPS Technical Conference?

CB: I found out about the GPS technical conference through advertising on a variety of media platforms, primarily LinkedIn.

GPS: What encouraged you to submit an abstract?

CB: I feel that we have novel, innovative technology and that it has produced some very interesting results that have the potential to change industry. I want people to learn about the results we have generated, and the GPS technical conference was and is a great forum to connect to professionals in industry.

GPS: How would you compare speaking at the GPS Technical Conference to other speaking opportunities?

CB: I have encountered a more diverse array of industry professionals at the global petroleum show than with other speaking opportunities. This presents advantages, in that you may discover an application or customer that you hadn't considered, as well as disadvantages, in that the professionals you run into will be less specialized in your area than they might be otherwise.

GPS: Did you have anyone reach out to your regarding your presentation?

CB: We had a client from overseas contact us regarding our presentation. We remain in discussions to travel overseas for a pilot project.

GPS: Do you have any updates regarding your presentation since GPS?

CB: Our presentation was a general overview of our technology and some of the results we have encountered. Since then, we have continued to build out the capabilities of our system, as well as finishing development of another application. We plan to present a more detailed investigation into one of these such areas at GPS 2020.

CB: As for encouraging others to apply, you never know who will see your presentation and may take interest in what it is that you are doing. The connections that you stand to make far outweigh the effort that it takes to submit an abstract!
