June 8 - 10, 2021
Stampede Park - Calgary, Canada

As the GPS Technical Conference Call for Abstracts is fully underway, we caught up with Committee Member Cesar Castillo, Senior Process Engineer and Director of Alto Canada Inc. to discuss what abstracts he'll be reviewing, what projects he's worked on and what trends he's noticing in the global energy landscape!

GPS: What is your specialty? What abstracts will you be reviewing?

CC: I will be reviewing Pipeline and Processing Facilities, Field Development and Infrastructure, Alternative Energy, Post-Production, Health and Safety, and Environmental Management.

GPS: What are some projects you’ve worked on?

CC: The most recent project was the new SAGD Water Technology Development Centre (WTDC) at Suncor's Firebag facility. This project is an initiative of the Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA), funded by CNRL, Suncor, Devon, Nexen, Husky and Shell. I have also participated in heavy oil and gas development projects located in Alberta, Colombia and the U.S.

GPS: What trends are you noticing in global energy?

CC: The trend of cost reduction is becoming less relevant and is overlapping the trend around clean technologies which is gaining more momentum

GPS: What attracted you to working in energy?

CC: The energy sector is the motor of many other industries and it has been fundamental in the development of society and the growth of the global economy.

GPS: What do you like to do in your free time?

CC: I love travelling, cruising and hiking.
