Since the launch of the Global Petroleum Show Awards in 2014, the program has shined a spotlight on technological advancements and environmental initiatives in the energy industry on a global stage at the annual conference and exhibition. Through one of the most impactful oil price downturns in history, the program continued to celebrate the successes of the companies creating positive change alongside the revolution. Companies are now operating more efficiently and environmentally responsible while they strive to succeed in a highly competitive energy market.

2017 Award Winner, GHGSat Global Emissions Monitoring, saw several milestones which have impacted their business. GHGSat’s mission is to become the global reference for remote sensing of greenhouse gas (GHG), air quality gas, and other trace gas emissions from any source in the world. Their demonstration satellite, Claire, has completed its first full year in operation and they have begun development of the next two satellites. Emissions Reduction Alberta and GHGSat have partnered to develop and demonstrate a satellite aircraft hybrid system in Alberta. Not only have they opened an office in Calgary, it will be the home and centre of command for their satellite-aircraft activities worldwide. GHGSat says that they’re “very excited for the future and appreciate the attention that was generated at the show and in the market from receiving last years award”.

The winner for the Indigenous Engagement category, Seven Lakes Oilfield Services Corporation has continued to grow their organization to over 320 full time employees in the past several months. The organization was selected because of their success in engaging in consultation, business and community development opportunities in the energy sector. Seven Lakes mission is to create meaningful employment, wealth and opportunities for First Nations people with a strong commitment to providing their clients with quality and reliable service. The organization was recognized through a number of awards in 2017, and continue to act on their commitment to safety in the industry.

Ingu Solutions, the winner of the Innovation in Technologies category, has miniaturized mobile sensors can detect leaks, geometric defects and deposits without the need for heavy equipment and high-priced consultants. CEO, John van Pol, shared that their company has successfully closed a $1M+ seed investment round at the end of December, which has given them the opportunity for “an amazing start in 2018 which will be the year we go fully commercial”. The company was recognized in the Silicon Review’s 50 Most Admired Companies of the Year (2017) for their technology’s impact on the economics of pipeline inspection in the industry.

Global Petroleum Show Awards is a testament to the industry’s accomplishments, especially through the last few years of turmoil. While the industry has suffered overall, incredible achievements are being surpassed for organizations who have invested in their communities, technology and the environment. In honor of the Global Petroleum Show’s 50th anniversary, the 2018 GPS Awards Gala will bring together industry leaders for a night of celebration to recognize and honour accomplishments of companies, individuals, initiatives, projects and technologies on an international scale.
