Rob Sturgess

Rob Sturgess is Vice President for Project Development. Mr. Sturgess started his engineering career solving problems for a major oil and gas company, which launched him into a thirty-year consulting career focusing on the nexus of engineering design and environmental protection. Rob specializes in enabling capital projects to proceed, through effective project design, robust regulatory permitting and extensive stakeholder consultation. Mr. Sturgess worked on the first underground coal gasification projects in Alberta in 2008 and was part of the team that helped shape the provincial regulations to allow underground gasification within the province. Mr. Sturgess was a founding and managing member of an independent environmental consulting company, E2 Environmental Alliance, which successfully merged with Matrix Solutions in 2002. Rob held multiple responsibilities at Matrix as operational Vice President, Principal Engineer and regulatory specialist in project management, water conservation, air emissions management, greenhouse gas (GHG) management, regulatory permitting, environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and industrial approvals applications. Rob received his B.Sc., Mechanical Engineering, from Queen's University in 1988.
