Professor Qing Wu, president of CNOOC Institute of Chemicals & Advanced Materials (CICM), obtained his PhD degree from Sinopec Research Institute of Petroleum Processing. He has over 30 years’ experience in oil refinery, and co-authored more than 170 journals and conference proceedings. He is a co-inventor of more than 50 granted patent rights. He wrote a lot of books such as "Intelligent Refining and Chemical Construction-From Digitalization to Intelligence”, "Petroleum Molecular Engineering", "Machine Learning and Data Science in the Oil and Gas Industry”, and “Molecular engineering and Molecular Management of Oil and Gas Resources”. Professor Qing Wu has won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the China Patent Excellence Award, the Hou Debang Chemical Science and Technology Achievement Award, the Hou Xianglin Petroleum Processing Science and Technology Award, the First Prize of Science and Technology Invention Award, and First Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation and CNOOC.

Professor Wu founded the theory of petroleum molecular engineering and molecular management, based on which he developed DPC (Direct Petroleum Cut to Chemicals & Materials) base catalyzing petroleum processing technology with enhanced chemicals production and realized the industrial application. It is the only technology that can realize the green and efficient direct conversion of crude oil, residual oil, oil sand bitumen and other inferior heavy oil, and replace the traditional processes such as catalytic cracking, delayed coking and VRDS. Moreover, Dr. Wu developed the hydroformylation technology of low carbon olefin with high selectivity at low temperature to produce high-valued chemicals such as aldehydes and alcohols. In the field of engineering thermochemistry, Dr. Wu initiated the new concept of utilizing chemical reaction heat for enhanced oil recovery in the upstream business and made a major breakthrough. Currently, he is committed to the engineering and industrialization of carbon dioxide mineralization, solidification and chemical utilization.
