Chris Nixon (PhD, BSc, RSE) is a Greenhouse Gas Scientist with Highwood Emissions Management. He has a background rich in technical field experience from geoscientific exploration and oil and gas construction. He has participated in geophysical research projects globally, including Germany, Peru, Mexico, and multiple remote locations in the USA and Canada. Integrally hardwired with curiosity, Chris pursued an undergraduate degree in physics to better understand the world and universe from a bottom-up perspective. With his mathematically thirst for data unquenched and equally hardwired with a passion for adventure and nature, Chris pursued a PhD in geophysics, specializing in the downhole seismics and petrology of shock metamorphism. Throughout his graduate research, he has developed scientific expertise by participating in and authoring publications in many exciting projects, including: • IODP/ICDP Expedition 364: A multinational scientific expedition to drill the Chicxulub Crater Peak Ring. • PTRC Aquistore: A commercial scale carbon capture project in Saskatchewan, storing over 370 kT of CO2 to date. • Magnetotelluric Studies in Peru: An ongoing project to better understand oceanic slab subduction in the Andean Subduction Zone As a jack of all trades and alpinist, Chris splits his free time between handyman projects at home and active outdoor pursuits in the nearby Rocky Mountains.
