Jian Lian

Postdoctoral Associate
University of Calgary

Dr. Jian Xiang LIAN received in 2010 his Bachelor degree as an engineer in Applied Physics and Chemistry, and completed in 2012 his Master degree in Engineering in Applied Physics - Nanotechnology, at Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL), BELGIUM. From February 2013 to January 2017, he pursued a Ph.D. studentship under the supervision of Dr. Yoann Olivier and co-supervision of Prof. David Beljonne, in the laboratory for the Chemistry of Novel Materials (CMN) of Prof. Roberto Lazzaroni, at the University of Mons (UMONS), BELGIUM. His research interests included the geometric, electronic and charge transport properties of graphene surfaces and their modulation by chemical functionalization. The Ph.D. was taking part in the UPGRADE project, in the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) program within the Seventh Framework Program (FP7-ICT-2011-C) for Research of the European Commission (FET-Open grant number: 309056, see https://cordis.europa.eu/ project/rcn/106214/factsheet/en). In February 2017, he started a postdoctoral fellowship in the group of Prof. Roberto Lazzaroni, in which he focused on the theoretical characterization of room-temperature ionic liquids (ILs)-graphene interfaces for energy storage materials. From February 2018 to September 2020, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at CICenergiGUNE, Spain, in the Theoretical Studies research group led by Dr. Javier Carrasco. He focused his research on the theoretical modeling of sodium-based layered transition metal oxides, for cathode materials in new-generation Na-based batteries. In February 2021 he joined Dr. Siahrostami's group at UCalgary, Canada, where he focuses his research on new materials for clean energy.
