Gregory John

Gregory has accumulated a wealth of professional experience in two countries and across many industries with over a decade’s experience in Indigenous and Stakeholder relations. He is a citizen of the Métis Nation of Alberta with family relations at Siksika Nation in Alberta and Lhatko Dene Nation in British Columbia. These relations have led him to develop multiple worldviews of sensitivity and enabled his mutual understanding of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous world. His experience and expertise lie in Indigenous relations, strategy, negotiations, communications, and public relations.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Calgary and is a candidate to receive his Executive MBA in 2021 at his alma mater. He is the one of the University of Calgary's youngest elected Senators and member of the Calgary Police Chief's Indigenous Advisory Board.

Over the course of his career he has had the opportunity to build relationships with over 300 First Nations, Metis Organizations and Communities across British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. He has worked as an advocate for Indigenous equity ownership in energy and worked on some of the most important projects in Canadian energy today including Keystone XL, TransMountain Expansion, and Coastal Gaslink Pipeline.

He is a highly sought-after panelist and keynote speaker who had the opportunity to speak at the Globe and Mail – Future Forward Summit in June 2019 in Toronto where he discussed the future of the Canadian Hydrocarbon Industry and in September 2019 delivered a keynote at Energy Disruptors on “Transforming the Canadian Energy Industry through Indigenous Partnership and Cross Industry Learning.”

He has recently returned from a weeklong trade mission to Japan where he was able to meet with government and business leaders and profile Canadian Energy. He gave assurance that progress is being made in getting our resources to market, and through Indigenous participation, we are transforming our industries to ensure everyone benefits from Canada’s energy wealth in the spirit and action of Reconciliation.
